On 30th November 2020, the 黑料正能量 community officially declared a Climate and Ecological Emergency.
This means that we, the CVC community:
- Acknowledge the聽scientific indicators聽(e.g. IPCC reports on warming and UN reports on loss of biodiversity) and聽consequences of economic growth.
- Accept the聽urgency of the situation: if we have a real chance of tackling these issues, we must take urgent and聽immediate action.
- Acknowledge that, as an educational community, we must聽prioritise efforts to develop students聽who are聽empowered聽and able to become聽positive sustainable citizens.
At our school our key aim is to:
- Get students聽informed听补苍诲听empowered聽to act on the climate/ecological emergency at both local and national levels.
The three areas staff and students voted as key priorities were:
- Integrating climate change topics into the curriculum throughout all departments.
- Striving to make our school campus and activities as ecologically friendly as possible.
- Helping our students put pressure on organisations and the government to address the climate/ecological crisis.
In accordance with the Department of Education鈥檚聽 the school has a designated Sustainability Lead and a sustainability committee whose remit is to produce and work on the Climate Action Plan.
As part of our environmental and sustainability education (ESE) programme at the school, we have provided a list of vocabulary connected to climate and nature a copy of which which can be found in the tabs on the left. These have been co-created with ESE, science and geography. They are split into words pupils might come across at 3 levels: year 7 and 8, year 9, and GCSE
The Trust鈥檚 sustainability policy can be found聽.
CVC鈥檚 Climate Action Plan and latest Sustainability report are on the tabs to the left. These include the school鈥檚 latest carbon footprint.

As part of our effort to engage students on the climate emergency we have created the聽Comberton Eco Award聽for year 7鈥檚 and 8鈥檚.
This has 3 sections: Head, Heart and Hands. Please refer to the Powerpoint and Application Form on the tabs to the left for more details about the award and how to apply.

The Eco Team
The school鈥檚 eco team meet on a Friday lunchtime as well as on Monday after school. They have links with a number of other schools through the Cambridge Sustainable Schools Network. They have written an eco code for the school and are working on a range of projects including composting, increasing the biodiversity on the school site, calculating the school鈥檚 carbon footprint and reducing the school鈥檚 energy use by using聽.
A blog of the eco team鈥檚 activities can be found here –聽
